Today marks the 62nd anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany. It is a day to commemorate the victims and sacrifices of the insanity of war, regardless of nationality, religion, or ethnicity. May the memory of the fallen never be tainted by the exploitation of states and politics. May they live on in eternal memory of man.

Actually, yesterday did.
Well, if you ignore that pesky timezone thing. ;-)
Dear Scott,
I guess you are referring to Victory in Europe day (VE-day) as opposed to the 9 May soviet victory day. I shall be sure also to remember Võidupüha on 23 June.
Yours,
Vilhelm
Great post! Simple, yet powerful.
Your blog is interesting in many ways, so I've chosen to add it to the current edition of A Hitchhiker's Guide To The Blogosphere.
Should you wish to do a permanent link exchange let me know; I'd be happy to keep in touch.
Cheers!
Seeing as you moderate your comments I should tell you, in case you do choose to do a link exchange, I'm in the United States.
My profile says Costa Rica because I want to see if people pay attention. So, if you choose to add me you can put it under Costa Rica if you wish. 8-)
There are no strings attached, no "need" to exchange links, to the Hitchhiker's Guide. I select sites I want to share for one reason or another. So either way is good with me.
Best of luck with your project.
Dear Kilroy_60,
Thank you for linking to my blog! I am sorry not to be able to return the favour, but I link exclusively to blogs related to Russia, Central and Eastern Europe, and Central Asia. I hope this is OK with you.
Yours,
Vilhelm
c праздником 9 мая...с днем победы...
better late than never :)
The difference between 8 May and 9 May is not merely a "pesky time zone thing" but is intimately related to Stalin's rather successful efforts to control Russians' historical memory. I have some notes on the issue here.
Warm regards,
/Pēteris
Dear Pēteris,
Thank you for pointing to your interesting piece on Stalin and the control of historical memory. It really makes on think.
Yours,
Vilhelm
